Gaia Pergolo

Gaia is a lawyer specialized in international criminal law and human rights. From Mar 17 to Dec 18, she served as International Legal Consultant for the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials (UNAKRT) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

In that role, she assisted the Judges of the Trial Chamber in the assessment of evidence of crimes perpetrated during the Khmer Rouge regime, and the preparation of the Trial Judgement in Case 002/02.

Previously, Gaia worked as Legal Officer for REDRESS in London, UK, where she led a three-year project focusing on promoting accountability for torture and seeking reparation for victims through a range of litigation, advocacy and capacity building activities. Gaia also worked as Associate Legal Officer with the Special Court for Sierra Leone on the Charles Taylor case, and interned for the ICC, ICTY and Human Rights Watch.

Gaia holds a M.Sc. in Human Rights from theLondon School of Economics and Political Science (London, UK), an LL.M. and an LL.B. both from the University of Pavia, Italy, and is admitted to the Italian Bar.
